hey guys. anyone ever look at their 5 day old clones and if you take them out of their medium they are all mushy?
This is my setup, i have 6 clones and they are 5 days old in soilless mix. they are being heated by a heat pad and are under two 2foot 20w flouro's.. they were taken from a 44 day old plant. the soilless mix is rather soggy, and they have had nearly 100% humidity during this five day period due to the dome over them..... they look rather good besides the fact that the stem under the ground is like mush, i actually pulled one out and it just separated from the stem that buried. ohh and the ambient(above the soil) temps havent been over 75 or so. not sure what the root temps are though. could this be from too much heat, too much moisture in the soilless mix, not enough heat, taking cutting from a plant that was too young? any suggestions are welcome. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's Algae/Fungus/Mold growth if its that clear shit gooping on the ends. YOur clones won't make it unless you fix this problem. Please post a PIC pf your setup and more details of it.

I had this problem and non of them rooted they just wilted and died.
I changed the rockwool (some of the stuff I got fell apart in my hands under light pressure) to growdan and I now have 2 out of 5 clones rooted with 6 more on the go. I also had a bit of luck just cutting and planting one in soil, it rooted and all but I killed it with nutes I think as it was in the same pot as one of the others as an experiment and went yellow and dried up. still has a bit of tip growth so im leaving it for a few days to see if it grows anew. |

as Rolln1up said it is more than likely fungus causing your problem - fungus Botrytis.
this fungus tends to occur wherever it comes in contact with plant nutrients. consequently, the fungus is usually found on dead plant matter, or on damaged or cloned plants where the root is damaged and the fungus can attack easily. from the source of entry the fungus then spreads to the rest of the plant, causing servere rot - particularly of roots or at the sutrface level of the soil for clones. areas cut and damaged during pruning and cloning are particularly prone to fugus botrytis. high humidity will only aggrevate the situation - so 100% will be doing you no favour - and lowering humidity is sometimes all that is needed to remedy the situation. but in this situation i would not only reduce humidity, but change the medium, clean the cloning box and area, cut away any stem areas that are affected, and dose with a fungicide. you will have to just do your best mate - but from your description i would not hold out tooo much hope. take some more cuttings if you can. hope this helps |

also be careful to dispose of your contaminated soil sensibly, because fungal spores are air dispersed there is the distinct possibility that the entire surface and sub-surface of the soil will be covered in spores.
clean equipment with a 5% bleach solution. |
