Default Splicing together Lamp holders.

Out of my box, i have one cable for my CFL bulb, ive got a second fixture in now, and i want to have it all running on the one cable.

So would it be alrite, just to cut open the main wire in, and wire up both lights to it in parallel??

Also, its about 2200 lumens of CFL good enough for one mother and 2 clones at time?

Thanks in advance

The short answer is NO,you should not splice 2 seperate electrical devices together, unless you really want a roasting fire.

I've done similar things myself and haven't had any ill effects so my answers is yes just hook it up in parallel and wire nut it well and you should be good

I will probably solder for safety, then wrap the whole thing in electrical insulation tape.

Just a bump for my other question, is 2200 lumens enough for a bonsai mother, and two clones at a time?

Allright, here's the long answer why you or anybody else should not do this, its a huge fire hazard ,you need to understand electricity & the principals behind it before you leap into this, this is not the safest advice your getting here.Soldering the connection has nothing to do with it being safe nor does wire nuts or electrical tape.

The danger here comes in two forms, the first being from pulling too much wattage/amperage from the lamp cord, when you have both lights running off the same cord spliced together it pulls double the current of what the cord was designed to safely handle, have you ever felt a hot extension cord from being overloaded???? this will be the same effect.

The 2nd part of the danger will come from the connection point, irregardless if the connection is solder'ed or not connections of any type generate heat, this is why even a single connection point is supposed to be incased inside a junction box, double connections like you propose are against building codes in every state in the USA & for good reason, tons of people burn their houses down every year doing shit like that.

Can you tell me why you cant simply run 2 cords, or at the very least spend $3 on a 3 way insulated splitter ?

There should be a sticky thread on this site about electrical saftey, especially when people are growing inside closets & confined spaces, doing this on the advice of others who have had no ill effects is nuts & a huge fire waiting to happen.

Read this thread.

Okay to be correct when you say wattage/amperage your restating amperage twice sine wattage is derived from amps*volts. I could see your point about increasing the current flow beyond a safe limit but hes adding a 23watt CFL which is only drawing 192 mA @ 120V. If you have a basic understanding of electrical theory than you could agree that increasing the power draw on a cable by 192mA isn't going to cause that much more power to be dropped across the extension cord. I could see your point if he was wiring a house which someone might plug a heater into but this is not the case he is only add a light, And not a 250W HPS bulb like in the other post.

i wouldnt listin to panhead the pyro... hes right about the voltage part, you would have 2 12v lighths running the same wire, thats an overload, aslong as you have wired it right and went NUTS with the electrical tape, you would be ok but your problem will occure when you keep blowing the fuse. so its probley not the best idea, but dont worry about a fire. FYI if you want them on one cord because your timer only has one outlet, then try plugging an small extension cord that has 2 or 3 outlets on the other side.. good luck

nice, ive been running 6 23 watters on one extension cord. its been running for about 3 months 24,7. still havent burned the house down yet.
