anyone ever get an hps bulb that stays purple? my buddy recently got a 600w Grow Bright hps bulb and when he first plugged it in he said it turned a dim purple and stayed purple for like 10 mins. he wanted me to ask someone on here if that could potentially damage his eyes from looking at it. he said he only looked at it for maybe 40 seconds total. thanks. when they're fresh, they often stay 'purple' for 10 to 20 minutes before warming up to the orange-red. they also do this for about 30 seconds each time you turn it on after that.

Cheers for the 411 on that. i called my buddy and he said that hes going to plug it in and check it in half and hour. will let you know the progress ohh btw, he has a MH conversion bulb that he had going b4 and said that it started up/works fine, he has a digital balast too if that makes any difference? ok, well i just got off the phone with my buddy and he said that it took about half an hour till the true hps bright orange red light started coming out. he said it actually turned from purple to a really dim blue before it actually fired up. he said he only looked at it twice within the half hour and thats what the colors were. he thought it was junk. thanks! Yeah man no worries there. They are newly charged chemicals so let them start reacting. My Metal Halide omits a very bright white/blue light. Haven't plugged in my HPS, but its supposed to omit 30% more blue then most lights.

haha, my buddy said that he went into his veg room to check on his plants to find the light out.... lol so went to go check if everything was plugged and and the ballast was.....(i was going to say humming) blowing i guess. its a digi. so he takes his light out after he unpluged the digi and the arc tube was completely detached from the housing? i saw it and it looked like it was unsoldered out of its bracket thing(?) lol i wonder what caused that. it was just floating around in the glass bulb. hah. grow bright, gotta love it.

hey do you think that the digi ballast had anything to do with this? its supposed to run brighter or something right? too much something for a cheaper bulb??? any thoughts? thanks friends! God bless everyone

I got a new HPS bulb today. Been on for about 5 hours and is just a dim purple still. Fuck HTG Supply. If you are thinking about buying one of their lighting systems, don't. They are the biggest pieces of shit and you will be sorry. Maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but soon enough.
