How to tell what kind of wee d you have

When growing, how can you tell (if you can) exactly what type of weed you have. Any information would be helpful. Here is a pic of what's growing now. Any suggestions?

i would say like any other plant: size, leaves and flowers. i would suggest to read up on the more popular strains and compare the characteristics of your plants to those strains.

just grow it out and call it Purple feet stinky nose. or how 'bout space pilot, captain neptune, green tomato, hot pot, destiny, mali poli, pocko locco, very fine herb, upside down widow... this name game has got to stop! i'm ready to cross every A+ herb i have with evry other A+ i start making up names. everyone else is. i already did it once. i'll keep going. aaaaaaagggghhh!

i go to my club. i donate meds for recovery costs. he asks what kind is it. i say Purple Kush. he says i already have some of that. i say call it whatever. a week later i go back. try the lavender everyon says, "it's the best". so i causally glance at it because i trust their opinion, and i pay up my top dollar fee. i get it home... sure enough i just bought my own meds. it all fits into a handful of catergories that spin off into infinity.

so my friend i would just call it: Some Fine Ass Weed

Well, judging from the pic you provided I would have to say it to be an indica with a small amount of sativa for character. It's parents would be an F2 feminized, crossed with an afghani hash plant each from different season grow ops. One having been indoors of course.
Judging from the breadth of the leaves I would say the father was originally grown on the eastern face of a temperate climate plateau and the mother woud have been grown indoors around a small litter of chihuahuas.
