Default Need Expert Advise
OK I have been growing for about six years. Some indoor and some outdoor, all in soil. When outdoor, I lived in upstate N.Y. (lot of nothing) but great soil. Now indoor I have been useing miracle grow poting soil, it has worked great (see gallery), but there must be a better mix. If anyone has had great results with a mix of potting soil and _______ please share? My next operation is going to be a bit larger and at multiple locations. I would really like to be on edge of EXPERTTEES!! HA HA Thanks a lot!!!

Honestly if you're doing a large job I'd go hydro.

It may be a little expensive to set up but you'll love it more.. better years and faster plant growth in general

I think it was either potroast or viredd that had a great soil mix that would insure you wouldnt have to add nutrients for 45 days

Default Thanks but no hydro for me
Thanks for the advice Chronic but I don't do hydro due to the fact I am all over the place and do not have anyone to tend to a hydro set up. I could teach someone but then someone would have to know. Not cool!!!! Useing soil I only need to be around every couple days.

A lot of the more experienced growers on here will not use hydro beacuse they dont like the idea of using chems for nutes, organically grown is apparently much tastier and smoother.

A quick and easy soil mix would require:

5 parts soil. Normal commercial potting soil should be fine.

5 parts perlite. This enhances aeration of the soil-mix, helps prevent over-watering by increasing drainage and reduces soil compaction. Perlite can be replaced with coarse vermiculite or crushed expanded clay balls (mica, leca, geolite).

Optional:
2 parts composted organic matter. This can be normal household compost. If you can find composted worm castings, seaweed or composted manures (chicken, horse) they can also be used for extra kick. Non-composted manures make the soil-mix too 'hot' for the plants and should be avoided.

Two most reputable widely mentioned brands are. Fox farm ocean organic potting mix and Black gold organic. both run you 10.50 a bag. I use fox farm and would never say anything bad about it, but cant give it too much props since I dont have exp with anything else.
