try to get some perlirte in with the muck, and try to have pebbles in the bottom, incase you have to flush, and to help drainage,
First, I will be growing outdoors with the plants in the ground. Im digging holes and placing trash bags in (with holes cut at the bottom of course) and putting the soil mix in there. I also may not be able to get ahold of fox farm soil (too far too drive). No big retail stores sell it right? Anyway so if I cant get ahold of fox farm, what would be the best soil to get? Im looking to stay organic or at least mostly organic here. I was thinking for a mix: 1 part "miracle grow organic choice garden soil", 2 parts "miracle grow organic choice potting mix", and 1 part perlite. Does this sound okay? Does any one know if my ph will be alright? If someone has a good organic mix (not involving fox farm) please post it. Thanks!![]()

i found a place nearby that sells fox farm wooD, now how does 2 parts fox farms ocean forest, 1 part mg organic garden soil, and 1 part perlite sound hm? Should i mix in some dolomite lime?
Your natural soil may not need much of anything.
Test it for PH and nutrients or have it tested by a lab....it is worth the trouble because then you will know precisely what to do in order to maximize your soils ability to provide optimum growth....
Depending on your PH you may be able simply to aerate the native soil by fluffing it up with peat moss. If the ph needs adjusting, use plenty of dolomite lime.
Tilling and or turning the soil over aggressively is important.
Testing will allow you to make better choices regarding fertilizers.

how far do you dig down to get an accurate soil sample in order to send in and get the proper reading you would need to make a soil mix thatll be just the right amount for your plants ?

The guys at the ah office can tell you, but if I remember correctly... You dig 6-12 in down and get samples from each area you wish to plant. Especially if you are near trees and such.
