Default my soil is dry as sand....
ok well here's the thing... my soil tends to dry out very quickly... the top 1/2 inch can dry out in as little as a few hrs.... ive never seeen it "look saturated" for more then a day so i dont know if i should water more... or leave it how they are.... i have 2 sprouts and 3 seeds comming up the sprouts have brown tips and brown along the sides of there leaves.... but that has to be expected cuz i left them w/o water for 10 days and had them next to a 100w cFl ... i think they actully might be stunted... cuz there about 20+ days along... and there still on there first node

sounds like you have good soil. I've had stnted plants that made it to harvest and some that didn't. 10 days is a little long. They may never recover. VV

Dot I tried to look at the pictures, gives me a 404 error message. There is a better way. When you post a reply, GO Advanced> scroll to Manage attachments> browse and Upload from A:/ drive or your USB etc. They show up as thumbnails in the bottom of the post.
Best thing to do is get a moisture meter? Try this. Two gallon pot, one gallon of phd water, Pour the water through and measure the run off, let it drain for like a half hour. This will not hurt you plant, it will flush it and bring oxygen down to the roots. Ok, if you know how much water you had to start with and how much the pot didn't keep, you now know how much water to give it. I'm not growing in soil. VV

error? it works fine for me.... and thats how i did do it... they do show up as thumbnails at bottom of thread you sure you were looking at mine?

as for the idea about water that is pretty smart \

and Stopwhining : that was just a general observation i have no idea about the exact numbers i will go try to get a nice digital thermomiter in the next few days. and get some exact numbers up ... but either way my soil shouldent be drying up that fast from 1 x 100watt cfl. which was 1-2 inches from plants... now is like 3-5
