Does this baby look good for a starter?

She popped out of the soil yesterday morning and seems to be growing really fast. I'm just wondering what thoughts and comments are. This is my very first plant and I really actually have no idea what I'm doing haha. I have it under 2 4ft 40W Clear White florescent lights. I plan on going to buy the grow lux florescent bulbs tomorrow. Any suggestions on color choices? And I'm going to use these until it's ready to flower then I'm thinking of going with LED since it's what I can afford. Have these done well since they came out? I heard at first they weren't that great but now I'm hearing differently. I'm willing to take all the advice I can get! Right now the plant is just sitting in a store bought soil. I honestly couldnt tell you which one. I just found an unopen bag sitting under my porch and used it. How long til I transplant to a bigger pot and when I do should I change the soil? Here are my pics. It's the only plant I'm growing right now as I will be a medical patient here soon and will actually be growing my own but for now its like a little experiment.

It's actually in a small plastic cup. I drilled holes in the bottom of it haha. This was very spur of the moment. I'm not really expecting much from it but I can hope for the best.

You are doing everything right. Transplant it when roots start to circle the cup bottom, maybe three weeks depending on light. Don't over pot.

Looks nice bro. Keep them under 24/7 light for 2 weeks, then switch down to 18/6 gradually with 1 hour increment changes each day. Then once they are about 8-12" or 6-8 weeks, you can induce flowering by switching lights to 12/12 light/dark period. Good luck on your grow.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty excited since this is my first one. I got word that there was a mite on it this morning. I read on these forums that 1/2 iso alcohol and 1/2 water with a dab of dishsoap could stop it before it gets bad. I'm going to go check out the situation asap. thanks again for your guys help. what a great forum

Does anyone know or have experience with flowering with LED's? It's really my only choice since I'm a broke SoB.

That sounds like a lot of work. Most people just do an16 on 8 off till flower time and switch to 12/12. I would be interested to know if there is any difference in plant growth...not someone's opinion either, experimental data. I have always wondered, nature's way or just switch it over?

You really don't need LED's to flower bro! If you can't afford a High Pressure Sodium bulb (HPS) (which you can probably find one for like 50 dollars, not a 400watt but still aHPS) you can flower with NORMAL CFLs (condensed fluorescent light, or the swirly bulbs that fit in normal sockets. same thing.) If you're using the 14 watt ones youre going to need a few of them, but they're cheap and really good with heat. Any bulbs on the 2100k spectrum are good for flowering, warm white or any flourescent with more of a red/yellow glow is probably good for flowering, where as cool white or blueish lights are good for the veg cycle.

Hope this helped, cheers!

Totally dig finding this thread! I just started growing a few days ago, broke SoB and spur of the moment aswell. im using an old baby wipe container as my container lol. And a 13W CFL bulb that was in my lamp nothing fancy. I actually threw up an LED light. Might be bad mixing both lights but eh, first plant just having fun why the hell not ya know? But yea man yours looks about the same as mine except I can barely see my second set of leaves. So yea. Nice to see someone else in my boat tho. Hell I even stole soil from my neighbor it was so spur of the moment like 2am lol!

Naw I'm pretty positive its good to get a few different kinds of spectrums in there, but mysterie, yer gonna need a few more of the bulbs you have now if you want your plant to get enough light (and not stretch till it falls over). But when it's more mature, you will need a lot more light than a few 13 watts.

You can grow with CFLs from start to finish you just gotta have enough of them

Yeah I found a z-105 Watt Compact Fluorescent 5000K Natural Daylight CFL for 24.99. Gonna buy a few of them and get a 2400K-2600K for flowering. Sound decent? and Mysterie we should compare our growths as we go along. Yours a bag seed or what?

Well I don't have a proper set up at all, I've been having a few set backs. One being the cat in the house knocked my stuff over last night roots came bare. put it into a smaller cup, but not sure if it had too much stress or not yet. And also gonna be gone for a week, house sitting for a cop.... so can't really bring my seedling lol. But yea. If it manages the stress I'd be down. Be cool to help each other out along the way. And not sure about the seed at all. If you mean bag seed as in a seed I found in a bag, then yep. sure is ha. I'll scrounge up some lighting things to throw into my closet. See what I can pull off.

LOL now that is hilarious. I don't really have the perfect environment for growing either. BUT, I was going to use a storage tub or a put together a closet that I got from Walmart a while back that I havent assembled yet. Mine is a bag seed as well. Hopefully its female and it blooms wonderfully. It sure is growing fast. I can't wait til the flowering stage. But with the environment I have now it's going to be interesting. Because the temp ranges from 65 to atleast 90 and little to no humidity and I don't know if there's a ghetto way to create humidity or not. It's currently in an old dusty garage under a growing fluorescent. I'll be switching to CFL's by next week. This is just my experimental plant for now. I'd love to do side by side growing tho that would be cool. So get your pics going! haha I'll upload some new pics tonight. Happy smoking and growing.
