i know the plants need sun outside , but is indirect sunlight( wen tree shades it) will it still grow?

If growing outside plants can be grown under trees if the sun comes in at an angle and lights the area for several hours every day. Plants should get at least 5 hours of direct sun every day, and 5 more hours of indirect light.
