They won't gain any lumens from this diffuser, like I said
it diffused the light and yes the "hotspots" directily under the
bulb.
Not 'hotspots' as in the forum-feared hotspots from reflective material... but THE hot-spot directly under the bulb that limits how close you can place the light to the plants... if that makes sense? You are right about good air movement and all that being adequate, but some people are interested because of the gain in lumens the plants would receive by using one in addition to good airflow/ventilation. At least that's why I've always been curious about them anyway.

Lowering lights closer to plants doesn't increase lumens? I'm confused big time.

have you used one?![]()
Don't think he has - keeps referring to hotspots (plural) and calling it a light diffuser... Is Al B Fuct still active on the forum? Might try be worth sending him a pm?
No, I don't think so, but from what I remember he said he used these, and I looked for them and they are made in Australia and were like 70 bucks. He used them in conjunction with the adjustable batwing and said the difuser put him in total control...
This was pretty deep into his harvest a lb every two weeks, so hard to find as it was a comment almost made in passing in a monumentally long thread.
Hotspots are the cause of a poorly designed reflector focusing
the radiant heat of the bulb in to an area. Radiant heat is heat
which cannot be expelled by the use of Air ducting, or fans.
Yes, I understand you might be able to place your hood closer to the plants,
but then you're not getting the light spread you're asking for.
And i say hotspots plural because I have several lights and am used to talking
pluraly about these issues, sorry if I cant be more of help.
And it is a light diffuser, they are called heatshields, diffusers, spreaders.....
This Light Spreader is a simple metal device that clips on to your bulb housing to
assist your reflector in evenly spreading the light and helping to reduce the occurence
of hot spots and shady edges.
What you waiting for? They're 15 dollars... use it or don't its not like it will increase yields.

Why would I use something so sophomoric, this is a very simple
way for Hydrofarm to make an extra $15 by telling you you're
reflector isn't doing it's job well enough. My reflectors work, how
bout yours?
