Thread: 2 Fans--Bigger For Exhaust or A/C Reflector??

I am about to setup a new room and I am going to air cool this new room with 2 air cooled reflectors. I already have a 747cfm fan and I'm going to buy a 400 and something cfm fan as well.

Should I use the larger fan as my exhaust fan and use the smaller one to cool my hoods? Or should I use the bigger fan to cool my hoods and the smaller one to exhaust the room?

I am kind of thinking that I should use the bigger one for the hoods. If I can get most of the heat out of the room with the hoods, I'm thinking I can just use the small fan to exhuast the room. Does this sound right or am I completly wrong here?

Sounds right, if you pull enough air from the lights you'll be pulling most of the heat too.

I'll second ink the world on this one.

You can use a separate air intake that draws from outside for your hoods and you won't need to filter your outgoing hood air. This will greatly increase the efficiency of cooling.

I recently upgraded my lights, and with it I upgraded my ventilation this way. It has made a world of difference. I've even doubled my exhaust filtration for the plants and yet still my canopy temperatures are now identical to ambient room temperatures outside my grow space.

Plants don't need nearly the same air exchange as much as they need temperature control.

I don't plan on filtering the air from my hoods. I will be running a straight shot from outside, through the reflectors, and then outside. But I will be using a second fan as exhaust for the cab which will be pulled through my filter, and then blown outside.

I am wondering if I should use the larger fan for the hoods or for my exhaust through the filter.

Definitely use the larger fan to control temperatures. Plants need very little air exchange compared to what's necessary to keep HID lighting within ideal growing temperature ranges.
