Default light schedule

Knowing that plants can adapt to alot of circumstances, I was wondering what people think about this. I understand plants use the amount of daylight hours to determine when it does what. But what do you think would happen if for instance you used 12 hour days instead of 24. Suppose you planted some seeds and gave them 12 hours of light for veg, and then when you were ready to flower, switch to 6 hours of light. Would the plant adapt to this from the beginning or is this something that the plant knows and hard coded through its genetics? I am just curious as to if this would actually work. Yes, I understand that it would probably affect the growth quite a bit with the decrease in hours in a day, but what would you do if growing on planet Jupiter where its days are around 10-11 hours. Yes, I know its not possible. Just looking to see if anyone has tried this and what the results are if known. Just looking to see if the idea is feasible.

How can u give a plant 12 hours of light without giving them 12 hours of darkness?

If you had them on a 12/12 schedule to start, I imagine they would try to bud... but I doubt you would like the results. Also, 6 hours of flowering light would probably lead to shitty weed, but thats just my guess... and again, if you are only giving them 6 hour of light than how long will they be in the dark? 18 hours?

I would say it is definetly not feasable.

That's my 2 cents.

to me it sounds like you would have the plant on 24/0 for veg and then come flower you would just end up splitting the 12 hours of dark up example your lights come on at 8am and go off at 2pm and come back on at 8pm and off a 2am

My guess is you would turn your plant male or hermie but nothing good would come of it that's for sure

Peace

yeah starting seedlings on 12/12 would cause them to go into flowering straight away, and then reverting to 18/6 would then send them to veg i belive...not sure what this would look like or how it would happen..

It wouldn't be 12/12 it would be 24/0. He said 12 HOUR DAYS ( not 24 ) so 12 hours out of 12 hour day is the whole day which means they would over lap into eachother causing it to be 24/0 and then he said he would switch to 6/12 which would be 6 hrs with light on and then 6hrs light off ( 12 hour day ) and then repeat over. So he would be turning the light off twice and on twice in a 24 HOUR period

I hope someone understands what I'm saying cause its a little hard for me to explain what I'm thinking right now

Basically, you would divide your timer up. The lights would come on at 12am and go off at 12 pm for veg. Then when you were ready to flower the light would come on at 12am and go off at 6am, then the lights would come back on at 12pm and go back off at 6pm. I know there is still 24 hours there, but its just a hard concept to grasp when all we know is 24 hours in a day. I am just trying to think of it as one complete light cycle(on/off) as a day, but shrinking it down into 12 hours instead. My timer has 2 on and 2 off settings per 24 hour period.

I think it would pretty much just interuppt the dark cycle of your plant during flower and possibly turn male or hermie

Were high when you were thinking about this?
