NO need for a glass shield on a cfl..

I have never seen a fluorescent burn a plant at a distant of 1 inch with just a gentle breeze from a fan..

and any time I have seen a BURN from a fluorescent, it is very isolated.. just a small spot on a plant.. but when you see a burn from an HID.. it is major...

of course HIDs are BETER (well HPS 400 and UP are better) but if you don;t want to deal with exhaust and heat... CFL is a great place to begin and get KILLER results...

Yes... you are correct...the reason is to explain the heat factor associated with CFLs....I have used these myself and had decent results....but wanted to point out that the energy and heat from these lights are not near as effective as hyped....and if not vented properly cabinet will reach unsafe levels for the plant....(heat stress)
Of course just my observations...and 2 sense worth...everyone needs to decide based on all the info they gather and what works for them.

probably true... cabnet grows will probably always have heat issues without solid ventilation regardless of bulb.. good point bro..

but if the ceiling is HIGH...6-7 feet.... and the plants are on the bottom of the closet.. it is really no problem.. the closet will only get a couplke degrees warmer than the ROOM...

I have a 3x3x5 space growing 10 plants, and right now all i have is a 150w daylight CFL from hydrofarm(actual 150w, not equiv.) Lookin to get more light for flowering ( which will hopefully be starting in 1-2 weeks). Should i go with the same light i have ( except with a 150w warm bulb), or go with the 70,100,or 150 watt HPS??

My babies seem to love the 150w CFL, i would love to just get anoter one, so i can stick with CFL, but everyone is tellin me to go HPS

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Not everyone is trying to grow pounds. For those of us who are growing personal stash so as not to have to deal with criminals to get our green, CFLs are a viable option. If you're growing a cash crop, totally not worth it.

I will not turn my nose up at CFL grown bud. My first grow was CFL (and my 2nd might be as well, undecided) and the results got me plenty baked.
