Default I need input quickly on this one, light question.

Hey guys,

I got a 400 Watt Metal Halide Light setup the other day. The light seems really hot. What is the average Distance from the canopy of the plant to keep the light at.

Does anyone know the perfect hight to keep the light away and control growth hieght and the burning the plant factor????????????????


I NEED INPUT QUICKLY ON THIS ONE

Just put your hand were the tops of your plants are. After a couple minutes if your hand isnt to hot than your good.

Just judge it with your hands.

If it's AC about 18 inches , if not, like 2 ft to 30 inches.

Just take his advice he's right, general rule, If the light is too hot for your hand then it's too hot for your plants.

I use the same size light. I hang a thermometer right at the level of canopy. I keep a wall mounted fan at the level of the light and blow it at the bulb. I probably have a 6 inch gap from the tops of the plants. And my thermometer reads beween 76 -84 deg. F. If you don have a thermometer just use your hand and see if it feels too warm for comfort. Also look at the leaves. If the serated edge of the blade is curved up its too hot. That is the plant perspiring to keep itself cool. Similar to people sweating.

You cant just throw out a number like its an exact science. I keep mine at about 6 inches away and it isnt too hot. It depends on your air flow, type of hood/reflector, humidity, and general room temperature. Theres a number of things that can affect your temps. Positivly or negativly.
