Default Outdoor Hydroton?
Hello everyone.
I'm going to be doing an outdoor grow next year, and am wondering if there is any reason not to substitute soil with hydroton if grown in a pot?
Basically I'm going to try growing at the top of a tree, and I think it'll be easier to have a bucket of hydroton up there than 40 pounds of soil.
I would water the plant regularly, and have proper drainage in the bucket.
Will it roll?

it should do.. what id do is nail your bucket down on the tree limb before you put hydroton in. idk bout it though seems as if it wouldnt hold water to well.

Yea, thats all I can think of, you would need to water more often.
If like the last guy said you are growing up in a tree that would be a pain in the ass.

What I'm going to do is make a platform, and secure the bucket without having to actually nail it to anything.
What advice would you have for water retension? Peat moss is readily available to me, but I don't want to have to screw around with the pH.

throwin pm in there would defeat the purpose i would reccommend sticking with dirt. clay pebs would work but i figure you waould have to water atleast 3 times a day. my ebb and flow pretty much dries up after about 6 hours and that would be about the same for you. lava rock may hold water a little better but IMO since your gunna put a deer stand up there you may as well mix a 5 gal bucket of your soil perlite etc.
clever thinking though

Yes... I know. Anywhere in the world except perhaps Sri Lanka is better than Atlanta.

Personally if I were to grow outside. I'd go soil less and just do a Dutch pots hydro system. Now that fucker would get some killer results. Nothing beats the sun and nothing really beats hydro.
