i have seen on the web you can buy coca plants...does anyone have experince of purchasing plants/obtaining seed and growing them? Do you just chew the leaf when you fancy one? Are there anythings to bear in mind..pit falls etc?

No, I am fairly certain he means coca as in the plant from which they derive cocaine, not cocoa, from which they derive chocolate.

I have no experience with this, but I am sure that you could find at least a little something about it at lycaeum.org. If not, erowid.org would be another place to look. Both of those sites are chock full of so much information that I couldn't imagine there would be no reference to cultivation or use of unprocessed coca leaf. Hope this helps.
