Is it ok for me to cut a gallon of milk carton in half for a starter pot? Is their any problem with the clear outside? Thanks

It's fine to use, but put something like black tape or something dark to cover it because the roots REALLY don't like light.

I would use foil tape on the outside of the milk carton, or at least duct tape.

Actually it's a mold that grows on the dirt if the container is clear that is really bad for the plants. JR

You dont haft to worry about the roots you can use clear containers if you like all this miss about.

I did 2 years of work in graduate school with a root pathogen. Many of the plants used were grown in clear containers to moniter infection levels, and disease progress. Never really saw any difference, or any statistically different differences in performance between the plants in clear containers and controls in std. black pots. I kinda think it is a myth, the problems of light exposure to roots. There is no photosensing apparatus in root tissue, so I cannot see the issue. Doesnt matter anyway, as they will be potted up shortly once they sex, and any concern will be over

dont recall ever hearing the mold thing .. but u should b good till the roots actually grow enough to reach the outer edge where light can hit them .. spray paint it black or tape or whatever good luck

Well Unless your gonna transplant in a week or 2 I would go to walmart and buy sum of their 3 dollar 4 gallon black trash cans. Or paint it black.
