Default 2 600 watts or 2 1000 watts enough for 20 plants or need more

I am setting up a medical grow to support 20 flowering plants. Would I be better off with two 600 watt lights or two 1000 watt lights? Or do I need more? I am on a limited budget. I am building the grow room in the basement and bill be framing it out with 2x4's so I can set it up anyway I want. I am planning on growing the first few cycles with soil due to my budget. Lets hear those great ideas?

7,000 lumens per sqft. How many lumens per 1000 watt light and 600 watt light. I know there is a thread with this info I can't seem to find it though. Not sure on square footage I will box in, wanna make sure plants have enough space.

I am not sure about a vertical setup. I was planning on running air cooled yield master style reflectors not cool tubes. I was thinking setting it up in 3 rows of seven and just run the lights down the middle.

I think that if you're able to run 3 600's you'll be a bit more efficient. It really depends on the size of your room not the number of plants though. Will you be using co2? That will play a major role in the decision to, since your plants can't use more that ~40w sqft with co2 levels below 500ppm. (estimates, but theyre in the ball park)

If you're dealing with full sized plants 3-4 feet finishing height ideally you should put under one 600w light is 3 plants or 5 plants per 1000w. When plants are that size they need at least 200w of light each. If you don't have enough lighting you'll have some finished top colas and totally underdeveloped pop corn buds. These may or may not need a few weeks extra to finish or they might not grow properly at all if the plants are really dense. Putting too many plants under one light just lowers your total yields in the end. You really need to balance things out to get the right amount. Also too many plants cause issues with molds, humidity, and poor air circulation. Not to mention poor light usage/penetration.

    More plants doesn't=higher yields.

You'll need an area larger then 2x4 if you plan on using 1000w lights. My hoods a lone are pretty damn close to 6 feet long end to end.

IMO i would go to 1000 watters your saying two 600 or two 1000 do the math pretty simple but in reality it comes down to $$$$ what can you afford i run many 1000 watts and use bulbs that cost in the range of 275.00 a bulb

as well exceeded the 1 gram per watt thingy

Yup you're right. Just miss read what he wrote. My advise on lighting though is still correct. 2x600x=6-8 plants max. 2x1000w=10-12 plants max.
