Man, I am just so depressed. Folks, I live in a mobile home, single dad with two kids, 16 year old boy and 12 year old girl. I have had to keep my closet door open and they saw the light from my hps 250. They were both in my room tonight and I saw my little girl peak behing my barrier I had in front of the closet. My son Said, Dad, what's that light and it might cause a fire", and my daughter said "he's growing plants in there", and I told them they were tomato plants. My son said, "yeah, uh huh, I want to see the TOMATO PLANTS. I yelled at them and told them to get out of my room. It's over. i can't have my son knowing, he tells a friend, his friend tells someone else, who tell their mom, next thing I know, cops are at my door.

What a bummer. I had purchased my hps 250, and just scored an hps 400 on Ebay and it isn't even here yet. I will have to kill my sickly plants tomorrow and I will smoke the damn things if they choke me to death. I have been at this for a couple months or more, killed a few plants, burned others with nutes, had them in too much heat, etc... My five small plants weren't even ready to flower yet, though the oldest was 12 inches high and getting bushy. I will pull them tomorrow and dry them and smoke them, I don't care if they do give me a headache. I am going to pack my stuff in a box and store it until I have the privacy to grow in a bedroom or something someday. That will probably be after my daughter leaves home someday, this all could be years from now, but at least I will have me a 250 and 400 hps stored away and some knowledge now about growing. It's going to be a long wait, AND WHAT'S WORSE IS MY CONTACT HASN'T HAD ANY IN OVER A MONTH. I am just so damn sad. I just can't risk my son knowing, and he doesn't mess with it, on the high school football team, job at Mcdonalds and such, he's a good kid and has never tried it. I know he knows what I am doing and that I smoke because we have had family here for holidays that smoke and I know he has smelled it coming out of my room, and my brother also told him that he smokes, so I am sure he knows I do too. I just can't risk his friends finding out, if that happens it's only a couple steps away from cops at the door. DAMN!! I might as well unplug my hps 250 tonight before I go to bed. Time they get home from school tomorrow I will have it all packed up and then when the hps 400 gets here I'll pack it up too. I may sell the 250 hps because I can veg with cfl's when I grow in the future, I also have 8 26 watt 6500k cfl's, so I should be good to go in the future with those and the 400.

I could just cry. I have no smoke, and not enough privacy or the room to grow my own. God, life sucks sometimes. I love weed so damn bad, I am 45 years old and still can't enjoy my simple past time when i want to. can't find it to buy, can't grow it for no privacy.

Thanks to all here who helped me learn some valuable info and I looked forward every day to getting up and reading for a while. I will be back hopefully in a few years. I am going to stay single so that when my kids finally leave home i will have my own home to myself and finally have me some privacy.

Keep it all setup. Grow you some tomatoes or peppers man. You'll gain indoor growing experience in the meantime, not to mention getting your room setup and perfectly optimized for max productivity.

since your Son is 16, you should sit him down and have a talk with him, use it as a postivie bonding expierence tell em its for medical issue or so on, who knows your soon mite understand

Seriously. Grow some tomatoe plants as a cover. Show him they are tomoatoe plants like you said they were. If they ask why you are hiding them just say its for the reflectivity and nowhere else to put it.

yup, and for less than $100 you can get everything you need to start dabbling in hydroponics. You can work on cloning, etc. This doesn't necessarily have to be a negative experience. Besides, once everybody gets bored peeking in on tomatoes or habaneros, you can sneak in a good crop or two.

Hey sorry to here that, but you did the only responsible thing you could do...Man you may have to stop your grow but at least you can hold your head up high around the young ones...And look at it this way, "You can start a new hobby with the kids and grow the peppers and tomatoes"..My hats off to you, "that you put your kids ahead of your own wants and needs"..

Thanks guys. yeah, my kid would probably accept it because I am already sure he knows, it's just never been said. It's not that i think he would throw a fit, or threaten to tell the cops or something, it's that at 16 he couldn't possible know the seriousness of telling a friend, and how telling one person might eventually lead to five people knowing, including other parents, and then lead to having the cops at the door. It's not that he would be uncool, it's that I wouldn't trust any 16 year-old kid with my possibility of me being caught by the cops. He's a good kid and would probably agree to let me do it, but he would have that knowledge, and I wouldn't feel comfortable with any 16 year-old kid having that kind of knowledge about me, know what I mean? My daughter will probably tell her friend, "my dad's growing tomatoes in his closet", having no idea what she is talking about. Think how that will sound to another parent. Yeah, growing real tomatoes might be a good experience thing, and in the future, after they get bored of seeing them, I could slip in a couple plants from time to time. I may go that route. I am also considering the plastic grow box thing that Jethro built. That could be an option with cfl's, and I could just keep my hps lights for the future. I could go on and kill these sickly plants I have now and take my time building a stealth box from the rubbermaid tubs. Already have my veg cfl's, so maybe that's a way to go. Then, the closet could be dark and I could even put the grow box in sight if I could stop the light from leaking too bad.

The more i think about this, the better it sounds. I could sell my hps 250 and buy the needed stuff for the rubbermaid grow box. And, if I flower during the days, while they are at school, I could open the lid up and stick it under my 400 hps, at least for 8 hours of the flower time, then before they get home I could pop the lid back on with the 8 2700k cfl's and put the box away. Timer would take care of the lights in the box and the kids would see nothing. I am not worried about the smell as we have skunk problems in this area anyway, and my kids are always complaing about the smell from my laundry in my bedroom. I was just thinking that this is what folks worked on and developed the stealth grow boxes for, just for this type situation, and here I have been going the wrong direction. I wouldn't even have to put my grow box in my closet, it could stay in a corner of the room or something. That way it would stay in the cool, air conditioned room. Where there's a will there's a way, huh? I think I'll pop my 250 hps on Ebay for 99 bucks and see if I get a bite. I just paid $137 for it less than a month ago from htg. This all gives me hope that it was just my growing style that needs changing, not ending my growing completely. My five I have now have been through so much stress that i might as well kill them and smoke em. This will give me times to build my box and do it right--let it take all the time it needs to be just right. I can then buy some fem seeds and grow three at a time maybe in one of those boxes. Sound like a plan?
