Running the lights 24/0 or 18/6 is all up to you bud, preference. Say if you want to save more money on the electric bill, 18/6 is the way to go.
Depending on how big you want your plant to be in the end(or maximize size for your space) will help you decide when to make the switch to 12/12. Most cannabis plants will stretch to being twice their size once put in flower. So If you veg a plant till it's 12 inches tall, it should roughly be 24 inches at finish. The younger the plant, the more it'll stretch. And Sativas stretch alot more than Indicas.

The FAQ is pretty good on this site, and there have been some real good threads about the 18/6 vs. the 24/7...depends on who you ask...I am going with the 24/7 under T5 flourescents...heres what my grow looks like at day 22 of veggin.......

I personally do 18/6 in veg because I don't think it is natural or healthy to do 24/7. I don't have any proof to back this up it's just what makes sense to me.

I have run both, and honestly if there was a difference in growth pattern/development, I didn't see it. Just more time for possible light leaks. Oh, and my electric bill is about 8 bucks cheaper on 18/6
