hell yeah even just puttin in some 46w ones would be nice but iw ould think the only thing u need now is to fab up a reflector. some cardboard and mylar could work wonders.

I spent the better part of the day yesterday (OK,.14 hrs!) building a CFL fixture. It was for my clone dome, too.

Seems I got a bit carried away, as I had 4 120W CFL's and 6 100W CFL's all running at once. I'm a total noob at growing (but not lights) and think I fried my clones last night. They are wilted like crazy this morning, and super sickly looking.

Tonight when they go on I'll unscrew everything but 4 of the the 100W lamps.

If anyone is interested, I can post pics and include building directions. It is fully covered inside with reflector material (mylar), and puts out a hellofa lot of light. Could probably do an entire grow with it if the bulbs were turned on/off as necessary for the stage.

How close should I have the lamps to the plastic top? I'm afraid that last night all the moisture got evaporated out, as no humidity seems to be left.

Shit.

Thank god I can get more clones and these were freshly rooted ones. No "huge" loss, but it was a tough lesson.

you guys are really over doing it, three 26 watt bulbs over the clones is all the light they can use.
also the socket rating has nothing to do with the amount of power that can be used from it. its a rating of how much heat it handle continously, since your using cfls you could easily hook up a few cfls from a single socket with no problems

I can do 3 100W'ers (23W CFL), and that should do OK.

yeah i know but we, at least myself for sure, is talkin about building a fixture with bigger bulbs for growing after the clone has rooted and through flower even.

ultra is right. the rating for a 60 watt bulb is because of the heat that is put out by the bulb. By installing the y socket you are moving the bulbs farther away and should not have a problem. I have been recommending those light bars for months now. They have them 3' long for less than $20.00. Only need one cord. You can't buy the parts and build it yourself for less. VV

i also have that same fixture.Bought it for the bathroom but then i got a mirrior with them built in. i am building a reflector as we speak out of sheet metal. i used a dryer vent i had in my shed.I'm gonna use the fixture for the sockets. So far its looking o.k. but its my first time working with metal so its a little crappy. ill post a pic when its completed.

i just went and got the same fixture, what is the proper way to wire this thing up? got black wire, white wire, and a bare wire.. just want to make sure im going to do it right.. i want it to be able to plug into an outlet as well.

Get a household extension cord and cut off and split the female end bare a 1\1/3 inch of wire , put a piece of tape on the sensor. screww in the bulb , touch plug in the extension cord and touch the assmbled lamp wires , the lamp should illuminate.
secure the wires with tape or wire caps and you are good to go, if the sensor is not covdered the lamp will not light.
