Alright so welcome to my new journal.. i will try to make it as detailed as i can so there could be a lot of reading.. this first post is going to be huge..

For those of you who are new there is a lot to catch you up on.. for those of you who followed my other journal it will be a review.. but i will try to cover everything...

to give you some back ground this is my 6th grow.. up until now i have used soil, so this is my first hydro grow.. i love organics.. but for convenience i have made the choice to switch over to hydro..

i just got done with harvesting my last soil crop.. i was hoping to hit a goal amount so that i could expand my grow room to include a 4000w HPS flower room... but i fell short of my mark so i am not going to be able to do that addition.. although i am sure i will talk about it plenty in the coming weeks..

so that leaves me with the setup i am going to run this grow.. which will be on the veg side of what is my entire grow room...

the area i am using for the grow is 5x9x7.. again this will be my veg room eventually.. but is dual purpose this grow... it is wrapped in black and white poly with a layer of IR block on under it... just for precaution i guess... i have used the poly to create a wall and section off the veg and what will one day be the flower room.. that room measure 7x9x7... i also have a seperate clone room that is 2x4x7... all these rooms are also wrapped in the black and white poly... i have a youtube video that shows better the sides... its from my last grow... but nothing much has changed except the hydro system..

i am using 4 sunleaves satellite IV high output floros right now.. they each put off 44,000 lumens.. i plan on adding 2 more in the next week or so... this will bring me up to about 7700 lumens sq/ft.. which will give me a nice grow...

the floros themselves are amazing.. each ballast is 420ws total.. and put off 44,000 lumens.. heat is minimal.. they do not get above 90F... in fact i can easily change the bulbs even after 24 hours of use.. they are warm.. but nothing to much... i know they can easily keep up with any HPS grow out there.. they are pricey.. but pay for themselves with efficiency.. i can run 4 of these and keep my grow room at 90F with no a/c...

which brings me to my intake/exhaust... which i dont really have at the moment.. as of right now the veg room exhausts into the flower room via a 400cfm exhaust fan... on the flower room side i have my a/c and carbon fan... i dont run the a/c because i found it made almost no difference at all... its a small btu a/c.. so i just dont run it... the carbon filter, which is actually a can50 with 400cfm 6" fan, exhausts into the flower room.. my thinking was the a/c would be pulled into the can fan and blow cool air in the veg room.. which it did.. just not enough to make it worth it.. so basically the air between the 2 rooms just circulates.. i keep the door to my grow room open to keep a steady supply of fresh air for the moment.. and since its just a few plants i have to worry about right now its fine..

i do plan on installing a fresh air intake over the next week or so via a box around a window.... this will also have a spot for an air intake to cool my HPS lights when i get them.. but thats way down the road... the fresh air intake will supply fresh air to my veg and flower room... i have a 16" air king oscilating fan to help with circulation and a smaller oscilating fan as well... and i plan on picking up a couple more as well...

alright enough about that.. stuff.. if you have any other questions about it feel free to ask... now to the fun stuff...

so as the thread states i am growing blueberry, white shark, chemdog, and og kush... the BB and WS are from seed.. and the CD and OGK are from clones i was given... when i germinated the seeds i thought my harvest would be done sooner than it was.. and i would have more time than i did between sow to transplant into the hydro system.. well i didnt.. and they soon out grew their starter cubes.. out of 8 BB and 7 WS only 4 BB and 1 WS have survived.. my germination method was good had i had the 2 weeks i thought i would have before transplant was needed.. but the seeds germed faster and outgrew their starter cubes quicker than i thought.. plus the girls i was waiting to harvest took longer... also the 2 of the 3 shop lights i have in my clone room were shorted out.. so a combination of the above 3 things lead to some deaths.... the clones had to be planted into dirt for 4 days and then transplannted in the hydro system.. i was not happy about this because that is a lot of shock to endure over a short time.. but all the girls i have going now are fine... today is day 3 in the hydro system...

so my garden consists of 12 girls....

3 - chemdog
4 - og kush
4 - blue berry
1 - white shark

they are all female except the white shark.. i dont know the sex of it.. but the BB seeds were fem.. 2 good friends sent hooked me up with these seeds so i have to do them proud.. rocky start huh??

the system i am using in an ebb and gro system with hydroton as a medium.. i have it flooding 6 times a day for 15 minutes right now... at least until the shock is over and they start growing again.. also due to the temp they seem to want to drink more... so until i get that in check as well, and as long as they respond well, ill keep up with the feeding...

i am using general hydroponics nutes... my entire line up is as follows:
flora gro
flora bloom
flora micro
floralicious gro
floralicious bloom
koolbloom liquid
koolbloom dry
diamond nectar
floranectar
and subculture B

i am also using a tall boy de-chlorinator for water purification...

as i said ealier today is day 3... when i sat the system up i tested the ec and ph before adding nutes to get an idea of where i was.. the EC was .6 and the PH was 7.8... after i added the first batch of nutes, which included the flora gro and mirco, diamond nectar, floranectar, and subculture, i ended up with an EC of .8 and a PH of 7.2... i used PH down to drop the PH to 6.0.. i use this day as day 1... at this point was i flooding only 4 times a day... and had 5 BB sprouts and only 3 OG kush..

the next day i checked the ph.. it had risen to 6.8.. the EC had also risen to 1.0.. oh btw, im using a milwaukee PH meter and a truncheon EC meter.. again i used ph down to lower the ph to 6.0 and left the water level where it was... the increase in EC didnt bother me.. at this time one of the BB sprouts was looking kind of sad.. but i was attributing it to shock and let it go....

today when i checked, again, my PH had risen to 6.8... i had to use PH down to lower it to 6.0.. which ends up taking about 20 ml... and yes, the meter is calibrated... the ec had also climbed to 1.2.. i checked the water level on a drain cycle to make sure they werent flooded and i had lost 15 gallons of water over the last 2 days.. i assume some is due to water retention of the medium.. and each of the 12 pots holds about an inch of water in the bottom.. plus the girls are thirsty from the heat.. which means they are sucking up water and nutes like there is no tomorrow.. so im happy there... ive seen good growth over the last couple days even with the transplant shock... so i added another 10 gallons of water and lowered the PH yet again to get back to a 6.0 PH and a 1.0 EC...

so it looks like i am going to need a lot of PH down and maybe a second purification system... i would like to try to get my EC of the plain water down to .2 or so... but i cant do that for a while.. both of the problems arent problems yet so we will just have to see how it goes...


**UP TO THE MINUTE UPDATE**

it looks like i will be adding 2x600w MHs to the veg room instead of the 2 additional floros... so i will have 4 floros and 2 MH's in less that 2 weeks..

now back to your regularly scheduled program..

so the girls are still shocked from transplant a little.. so growth is minimal right now.. same for the seedlings... but ill post the pics i was going to.. they are just of the hydro system before i set it up... a few of them in the clone room before transplant.. and how the room looks now set up..


also instead of 600w ballasts i am going to get 400's.. this is because 400w MH are WAY more efficient than 600 MH.. i am going to use 400w hps bulbs for this grow since i have to flower on the same side as im vegging.. but will switch them to MH when the bulbs are done.. this will give me a total of 1680w of high output floros and 800ws of hps/mh in about a week...

other than that not much to report...

subscribed..excited to see some hydro action..i really hope those fem bb's work out for ya. im running a batch as u know. im still iffy on the fem aspect.. i tryed 2 sprout 3 of em in march.. i did get 2females..that i ended up selling just cause they werent as big as my clones going in2 flower..but 1 appeared to be a male with pre balls forming.. i killed it , but regretted not picked off the growth and letting it go to see wut infact wuz going on. i just hope that there fem shit is up and legit.. i mean bcbuddepot charges quite some difference between there regs and there fem.. would like to think its bulletprooff but dunno..

on another note..man i think youll c some sick results fromt the extra MH .. i feel u on ur setbacks..ive felt like this for a awhile. i feel blessed enought tho 2 come out with wut i did.. and that i had $ Be4 harvest..to make the last minute improves this week..picking up materials last week. so it didnt come out of my new ends. im very impressed with the HO floros indeed. amazing simply amazing. im going to see how i like my 400 switched out to MH very soon..if i ever need any more light in my veg area im going to try ur 420w floros out. they are pricey..but in effecientcy they pay for themselves. plus its always nice to rub it in that the weed is from floros..just 2 c the look on peoples faces. well im off 2 bed Grandpa out

Looking good man, is this seat taken? Hahah i'll be following this one man. One question though... what makes 400 watt ballasts WAY more efficient than 600's? I thought I remember reading somewhere that 600s were the most efficient. Hmmm I guess I learn something knew everyday

i do sorta love throwing my floros in the face of people who give shit to floro growers.. its not really fair since mine are high outputs.. but still.. its nice to show it can be done..

i am actually going to use HPS bulbs for this grow and then switch to the MH lamps when they HPS burn out or need replaced or whatever.. since i have to flower on this side of the room for 1 last grow i figure it cant hurt to have them... so itll be 1680 watts of the floros and another 800 total watts of HPS... it will eventually be an almost 2500w veg room... plus i am going to do some rearranging.. i am gonna ditch the clone room i have and use that closet to exhaust all the heat from the lights and rooms into there.. and put my carbon filter in there and exhaust that into my attic.. so i will have a seperate room all together to dump all my heat into before the air gets cleaned and finally exhausted out of the grow room area completely...

i also plan on building a wall between the veg and flower room... thanks to your inspiration... itll be confusing to explain how i want to build it.. but there will be a space to walk through to each side that is covered for light leakage... plus a BADASS spot for fresh air intake and shit.. itll be so nice to get this damn a/c out of here.. its just takin up space now...

the BB are looking ok.. 2 of the 4 seem to be doing better.. but im am 100% sure they are all gonna grow.. thanks for the heads up tho on the fem maybe male thing.. ill keep an eye out.. that would be bullshit tho if you bought fem seeds and they were actually mixed..

LOL your fuckin funny bro!! shit should get really deep on this grow.. much more improved over the last grow.. just based on each girl having their OWN pot and switching to hydro.. let alone the fact im craming even MORE lights into this little space.. i should have around 6100 lumens per square foot for the veg room now... should end up with some STRONG girs!! and just so you know the WS girl (knock on wood) is doing great!

so typically your right.. 600w lamps are more efficient than 400s... but thats when talking about HPS... when it comes to HPS you get more lumens per watt with a 600w lamp than you do with a 400 or 1000 watt lamp...

HPS
250w = 114 lumens per watt
400w = 125 lumens per watt
600w = 150 lumens per watt
1000w = 145 lumens per watt

all those are averages.. bulb to bulb it will vary a lot.. but as you can see with HPS a 600w bulb is more efficient..

now.. MH is much different.. they dont put off as many lumens as an HPS bulb does to begin with... but they are amazing for vegging... here is the break down for MH

MH
250w = 84 lumens per watt
400w = 97.5 lumens per watt
600w = 78 lumens per watt
1000w = 103 lumens per watt

now obviously the 1000w MH is the most efficient of the bunch.. i was more refering to the fact that the 400w was WAY more efficient than the 600w when it comes to MH.. i dont have the money to drop into 1000w MH's so given the choice between the 400 or 600 i would actually choose the 400 in this case due to the fact they almost give me 20 more lumens per watt than the 600 does..

nah.. ill keep it going just for shits and giggles.. but i wont be updating my grow at all as much in it.. more of less because my setup is changing SO much.. from soil to hydro... plus adding in lights... that yea.. it seems starting fresh for me would be a good thing... plus i can get some hydro growers who want to learn/watch to do so... no one, besides those of you who are my good buddies, would know about the hydro grow otherwise.. hell.. the other journal is almost 90 pages... could you imagine if i threw another grow on top of that... no one would ever want to join!! thats a LOT of shit to catch up on.. then to find out i started soil and switched to hydro.. i think it would just be easier.. so still not much to show as far as new pics go.. i have to change the resevoir out sunday and change the nutes.. am i am expecting to see hella growth in the following days from that.. but mostly i figure this week was more of a "get over their shock and used to the hydro system" week.. at least a way to get my feet wet with the new journal...

so as i said i am going to use HPS lamps for this grow and then switch them to MH.. if 600w MH were more efficient than the 400s i'd just get 600's.. but i would rather have 3 400 w MH that 2 600w ones... it just sucks because i am gonna lose out on the efficiency of the 600w HPS lamps.. oh well.. its just for 1 grow..

i am only getting 2 for now.. and with what i already have going i figure i shouldnt need a 3rd 400w light... i mean... is 2500ws of veg lighting in a 5x9 space enough you think?? or would you add a 3rd 400w MH to the mix if you already had 6 other lamps?? the 3rd seems to be overkill at that point.. but then i think about if i add the autoflowers in i could use them right??

oh thats a HUGE point to bring up.. for those of you who are new... let me explain my plan..

again i will eventually have 2 sides to my grow.. a veg and flower obviously... since i know i will have unused space in my veg and flower, because i plan on only growing 12 larger girls, i have figured out how i am going to utilize all the space i have... in the veg room i plan on filling in the empty space i have with autoflowers.. i figure i can grow them under the canopy for the 12 larger vegging girls.. or, if not under, at least along side.. that way i am using all the space i have in the veg room.. for the flower room, once thats going, i plan on just running a bunch of clones that go straight to 12/12 under the canopy of the 12 larger girls i am growing.. once the flower room is going i will have 4x1000w hps lamps in there so i am not worried about them being light starved.. and even if they stretch and dont produce a lot.. its more than i have it i didnt use the space.. right??

anyways that brings me back the original thought of should i add a 3rd 400w MH in when i decide to start the autoflowers?? or should i get a 3rd 400w ballast.. but run them all with HPS bulbs since HPS can be used both for veg and flower?? the idea there, even tho they arent as efficient as 600w HPS is that i can keep them as low as my floros i have now... this will add some red/orange to the spectrum for the autoflowers.. sorry if im rambling guys.. i smoked some bubble hash i made the other day... any ideas or suggestions guys??
