Exclamation Seedling Stage Conclusion
I just wanted to post this as to get rid of any assumptions, crazy ideas, and waste of money, and confusing-and incorrect information.

1. After germination (what ever method used), there is no need to feed the seedling for any reason. The cotleydans are the feeding material for small and fragile plant. The cotleydans are the small pair of leaves that are round and smooth that are the first to show during germination.

2. Photosynthesis is not occuring at this point. The only thing truly important at this time is root growth. Do not let substrate be either too moist or to dry. This will cause root damage.

3. Once the cotleydans begin to wither due to consumption by the plant; you can now start a careful feeding regimen and utilizing lighting efficiently.

4. Things to remember- lighting needs are truly and simply equivalent to the size of the leaves. The larger the leaf, the more light needed. This is not to say that more lighting is not important, it is to say that small leaves will only use as much light as needed and as much as they can use for photosynthesis.

5. Seedling stage ENDS when cotleydans begin to wither and die.

you are right at every point but just remember when trying to root a seed the only two factors that are important are it must be moist and it must be warm

happy growing!

nice post eiancu, just one question tho. When the cotyledons start to wither does it also start to yellow? i have several seedlings now that have significant yellowing but only on the cots

Yes, the cots will start to yellow and wither for sure. All of the leaf nutrients are being canabalized by the upper leaves. No worries when this happens.
