Default hydro vs soil

So, I am planning on a grow here in the not to distant future. I have one previous grow under my belt with an aerogarden. I am having some trouble deciding whether to go with hydro or soil. If I went with hydro, I would probably use CFL lights, if i went with soil I would consider upgrading the lights a little bit. Does anyone have any advice?
