cross pollenating a good idea?

with some strains of seeds being very expensive, i wonder if anyone ever cross pollinates to keep back seeds for future use???? or would it be more viable to just keep buying the seeds in when i want to grow that strain again?

i understand about taking cuttings etc......

but i mean if i ever wanted to go back and grow the same strain sometime in the future????

I'm planning on making some seeds soonish as well, and from what I've read there are 2 ways to do it with a single plant:

1. Colloidal silver - when harvesting a plant you wanna keep growing leave a couple small nugs at the bottom of the plant and give them a good ol' spray with colloidal silver then wrap them in wax paper (the yellow stuff you get sticky labels on...) After a few days remove the paper then a week or so later you should get some seeds

2. Leave the plant in flower for a LONG time - eventually it will produce its own seeds in pods and they will all be female as its off a female plant

(I recommend you take a few clones off the plant first so you can experiment a bit...)

The only problem that u will get from this method is poor genetics, it all depends on what plants u are using to get pollen and what mother plant u wish to pollinate to produce seeds. Theres a very nice guide in advanced cultivation forum that talks about what too look for in the plants that you choose to breed with, i mean if you going to be using a garbage plant to pollinate a plant that u paid alot for its almost a waste of bud and effort.

what if i just wanted the seeds for the plant i just planted for bud? would i harvest my bud in the same way and just leave a few small buds at the bottom and will they give female seeds? or will the genetics still be poor?
