Transplanting to larger Hempy Buckets?

I am considering growing with the Hempy Bucket method.

If anyone has experience with this I would love some input/advice here:

1) If you want to use a 5gal bucket, is it best to start in a 2gal and transplant to a 5gal?

2) Are there significant growth differences growing in 2gal vs. 5gal?

3) Most importantl for me - How do you transplant from smaller hempy bucket to a bigger one. Do you want the roots to be above the res in the new bucket or right in it? Any and every detail and comments appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

All the answeres you need are in the Hempy Collective....

Opinions vary tho. I use the BOG method to trasnplant. I just cut the cottom of the container off, put it in the new container and fill in with material. I put it a couple inches above the res. It will slow growth for a week, but ensures good root development...

cool thank you for the info. When you transplant do you try to take the entire root+perlite out of the bucket and keep its shape and put it directly into the new bucket(above the res-line) and then fill the rest in with more perlite?

Or you can just bog them in to the level you want.. either way works, but bogging is a little cleaner, IMO...

If you look at shnkmans thread, you'll see how he just put his hand over the top, stem through his fingers and turned it upside down like you do with soil. The entire rootball came out just like soil. https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/146550-shnkrmns-pickle-bucket-hempy-grow.html
Now I've grown in 100% p'lite also but started them in bigger pots so I didnt have to figure out the transplanting piece. My journal is still in my sig...take a look. I think my pot was 1-2 gal size? I got almost 700g from 2 plants :hump:
I would start them in your 2gal pots and just leave them unless you've got bigger and better plans.

Well I want to get as much as I can out of the plant so I figured a 5gal would be good for that, but I did read your thread page to page and saw how much you yielded from that 2gal... Will a 5gal offer significantly more growth?

I also read Shnkrm thread from page to page. I saw how he pulled it out but I just want to get everything 100% down before I do it myself.

Boneman do they still sell those 2gal buckets with the lip in them at walmart???

Cut the bottom of the cup/pot off and just set it into the lareer bucket. Prefill the larger one so that the roots will be about 3 inches above the res, set the cut pot in and fill in around the sides.. Take a look at my grow, I bogged 16oz cups into 3 gallon buckets...

Transplanting is perfectly fine too, you just have to wait for them to get roots pretty tight, or else the medium can fall apart, as I found out...

I was just at wal mart this weekend and they still sell them
they do have the same pots at wal mart but boneman did you do anything to the bottom of the bucket on the inside so that the roots could get into the reserve????

so no perlite in the reserve and the roots will grow though the plastic netting at the bottom of the pot into the reserve ???? just make sure to water when the reserve gets low??

I growing two plants right now in hempy buckets and I must say, I LOVE IT!!! I've been growing for three weeks now and they grow much faster then in soil and or soilless mix. I am looking to transplant but am going to do some research first but anything you need to know, if I know the answer I will answer it for you good luck.

I already feel the need for a bigger bucket.
Thank you and God bless
