I understand that in order to grow the best buds you need to maintain complete darkness during the hours which the plant sleeps. And I'm not challenging that because I want to grow dank weed.

However, I always wondered why? It doesn't seem to make any sense, outside the plants would be receiving plenty of light from the moon, stars, and if they're close to civilization, the artificial light. Why must indoor rooms be completely light proof at least during the vegetative stage?

Just a thought, was hoping someone had expert advice on the subject. I'm starting my plants on the 18-6 schedule for the first time tonight and I'm stressing about the tiniest bit of light entering my closet, and just wanted to know why it was worth my efforts.

light spillage decreases the amount of light that hits your buds, and leaks out, which can lead to your garden's discovery if seen. plants need dark or they get confused and herm, it happened to me and it's not fun. i had to write all that so i expect my rep sir.

light is bad during photoperiod and interrupts budding.

I'm not worried about the light proofing when the lights are on just why we let them sleep. But the herms are definitely no good so....

sorry if I'm being annoying, I'm just in the middle of my first grow, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

I understand where you're going with the efficiency and stealth, but why then do outdoor plants not mind moonlight but puny little incandescents can make them confused and herm.?

Just better safe then sorry. I bought a timer and black plastic. 12-12 only all day after veg.
