I heard a woman with a green thumb say that if you put crushed egg shells on the top of your soil that it helps the plant. Does anyone know anymore information about this? Thanks.

the shells are made of calcium carbonate, got some phosphate and magnesium in there too. i used them on the tomatoes this year to see if it would prevent end rot caused by calcium shortage. actually, i put a dozen or so in a blender with water and poured it around the base of affected plants.. didn't help.
some people swear by them. could be something you have to do on a regular basis to get results... .

my mother used it on all types of plants it helps but its a subtle reaction your not going to wake up the next day and see a difference, and you need to let them decompose in water or ferment what ever you want to call it,
1 gallon of distilled water 1/2 dozen egg shells break the shells up and put in the gallon of water and let sit for a month or two.

well, I heard that you do that to prevent slugs from eating your plant because they dont like going over sharp edges.
But, a better technique for deterring slugs (if an outdoor grower like me) is to get an empty tin of beans or something, dig a hole for it in the ground next to your plant and then fill it half-way with beer. The slugs love it and they drown once they're in, but the plant remains unharmed. I would guess that they die pretty happily too with all that beer in their system! haha peace |

....i know that you can ballance the Hp of your soil by soaking the egg shells in water, than filteding the shells n using the water.
BUT what i hear is that when you crush an egg (the inside of it) over the soul of the plant and watering over it, it helps/stimulates flowering. |
