Spider Mites? Pyrethrin?

Can't believe I did a search on spider mites on a marijuana board and didn't get any hits.

I think I've got the little buggers on one of my three plants. This is the same plant that got bud rot a couple of weeks ago. With lots of attention I've saved her from the rot so far. But now I see pale yellow spots on leaves and when I look at the underside I see webs, white egglike things and black specs. I don't see anything moving, but I'm not taking any chances.

I checked around and read that you could spray with the botanical pyrethrin or some other chemicals like Safers Soap or a homemade spice tea. But nobody said whether you could use any of those things while the plant is in bud about a month from harvest, if it survives to harvest.

Pyrethrin is the only thing I can get locally. Can I use it? The problem is effecting only the bottom thrid of the plant and not even all of that.

Sounds like mites to me. I've had them a couple of times and the only thing that will completly wipe them out, in my experience, is AVID. I wouldn't use it close to harvest though. After this harvest, get some AVID and spray your entire grow area. Spray the leaves of your mother plants and any existing growing stock. Check your cuttings too. Also, check your other plants, like house plants. If you have mites on one plant, you probably have them on all of your plants .... especially if you are seeing webs. The fact that they have formed webs means that they are fully entrenched. I feel sorry for you, Bro. I've had a couple of crops completly wiped out by mites. One thing to be sure of ... if you get cuttings from friends, be sure to check them out with a magnifying glass before you bring them into the house.

Yes, the pyrethrin will work for mites, and you can spray it on buds. Note that it may affect the final taste of the bud, but with a month to go you'll be all right. Spray from the bottom pointing upward, to get as much of the undersides of the leaves as possible.

Thanks, friends. I just followed potroast's advice and will now start praying to the garden gods. I know I might have to spray another time or two to get all the mites, so I'm trying to keep the spray to the part of the plant that's effected.

ViRedd, whole crops lost? Man I think I'd break down and cry. The one good thing with my plant is that she was grown separately from the others and except for a couple days was never even close to them. I'm for sure keeping her separate from all the other plants now.

There are really only 2 cures for mites. One method is to spray with AVID.. this is a very expensive and dangerous posion to use.. But it will illiminate MITES..

The second method is Pest Strips... these things are amazing

Right Hardware - Item Detail

also sold in the USA as the 'Hot Shot' brand, commonly sold in grocery stores, and hardware stores, roughly $7, last for 5 months...

all other methods will be futile.. MITES are GNARLEY..
