Let them fall off on their own. Excessive pruning will shock the plant. It's perfectly normal for them to die toward the end of flowering.

Sounds like nute burn. Pics would help. If it's nute burn, pruning is the least of your troubles.

It sounds like you got some problems but just to answer your question about removing dead leaves. Remove the whole leaf up to the stalk. Any dead foilage (i.e. parts of plants) is bad. Raises the risk of getting deseases and BUGS! Cleanliness is best!
