Generally they get plugged into a timer so the light runs on the correct cycle. The timer plugs into the wall (or power strip)

You get a cord, wire to the correct voltage on the ballast, probably with wire nuts, plug it into the wall. There is no reason you can't especially with a 100 watter, it isn't going to pull enough amps to worry about.

To put it in simplier terms, are you afraid of plugging in a lamp with a 100 watt incandecent bulb in it into the wall, of course not, same difference.

I was looking at the ballast and they just had wiring that needed to be connected to 16 gauge wiring and then connect to the electrical box.. atleast thats what the people from home depot told me..

But your saying that theres a timer or power strip i can connect the wiring to and then connect it to the wall???

I just need a ballast to power a 100W mh bulb

what size gauge of wire would you recommend for a ballast that will support a 100W bulb??

Wait ... wait .. wait. That sounds like one of those Home Security HPS lights from Home Depot... is it? Because if it is that would explain why they are saying connect it to the electrical box.

Maybe I'm just high and reading it wrong... but is that what you are talking about?
