all i have is the bulbs and i cant get the square box thing the bulbs go in, all i have is the heat lamp cord i was using for my cfls, is it alright to switch out the light bulbs?? Because i put the bulbs on the cord that was powering my cfls and the metal halide bulb didnt turn on or do i need to wait for the bulb to heat up or something?? cuz i know some light take a while to turn on!!

Definatly no. You need special ballast to ignite the lamp. what i found out is go to wally world or homedepot and get a 100 -150w security lamp, it has the ballast built in already for MH . this is what im doing in the Near future with my grow. Good luck
