I live in a big northeastern city, and I just started growing some small plants on my back patio about a week ago, I had a few questions.
1. How much shade is tolerable to the plants hourly a day? I need to keep them out of veiw of neighbors, yet still getting some light. 2. I have been contimplating growing them inside with lights, how much will this effect my power bill? 3. do young plants make a decent transition between outdoor and indoor growing? thanks, and sorry if i sound like a noob. |

You should figure out an area to put them as when they get a little older the smell will be blowing ever so obviously in the wind.
No clue about shade, sorry. 3 Depends on the setup you choose to grow with, including lights. Get some cfls and depending on how many and what wattage a few could run at a smaller amount of energy than say a small chandelier(sp.?). Just a guess as they use way less energy than normal bulbs. For instance I have a 40 watt cfl here that is a replacement for 150 watt incandescent bulb. No clue about the last one. Again, I'm sorry. Also, please don't quote me on what I have told you as I could very well be completely wrong. Good luck |

7+ hours of direct sunlight a day is good.
like orly says, use cfls and youll be fine. even a 250/400w hps wont increase your bill too much. plants should be fine to move inside. they in pots? if not youll have to transplant. tips for this in the faq, its very easy. good luck man
