Default Ahh, good ole well water

Finally got my PH tester today so I went to see what my water is PH'ed at...

6.45!

It's so nice to be able to fill up my water jugs from the kitchen sink without any worries =)

Is that the only thing to worry about with well water? I have a well and don't drink from it due to taste and bacteria concerns. Is there anything else to check for in that stuff?

I lost my first crop using well water that was far too high in dissolved solids, if you call your local water place they can usually give you a full rundown of the quality of your well water.

6.45 is too high to be used without downward pH correction. You need some "pH Down" sauce; probably about 1-2ml per 10L or water, but you'll only work out the exact qty by measuring.

Well water will have a lot of dissolved minerals; check the ppm of your plain water with your nute meter. I bet you find it hovers around 200-300ppm.

A drinking water filter might be useful. Run some of your water through a Brita or other good quality drinking water filter and check ppm and pH again. Bet the ppm drops, though the pH will probably stay close to 6.45.

Another source of good quality water is a dehumidifier unit. No chlorine, no minerals. My dehumidifier makes 10L of distilled water per day.

6.45 is too high?

From most of my research (videos, forums, etc) it said 6.3 - 6.9 PH range is what your aiming for with a soil based grow, is that not correct?

Yeah the PPM is fine. As long as you have a good filter and replace it when your suppose to, you dont get a mineral build up.

Bacteria in the water? Nah, not where I live, this stuff tastes better then bottled water.

Cheers,
-bwbig
