DIY Honey Oil/Honey Oil Extractor A.K.A. BHO

Here is my DIY for honey oil.

I will give you a quick rundown on safety.

1. wear a glove when putting the butane through the pipe. If not you will end up freezing your hand to the pipe and you could possibly suffer from frostbite.

2. butane is flammable. The safest place to do honey oil is outside with a good breeze. Butane is heavier than air so will pool in low areas and could become a fire/explosion hazard.

3. No smoking, no open flames, no sparks. Be safe!!!!

Step one:

What you need



Something I forgot to include in the picture is a 1/16th drill bit. It's listed in the picture but not actually there.

Step one:

Drill a 1/8th" hole in one end cap



Step 2:

Drill multiple 1/16th" holes in second endcap



Step 3:

Place a small piece of coffee filter in the endcap with the multiple holes



Step 4:

Funnel the "skuff" into the copper pipe



Step 5:

While holding the copper pipe safely with a glove (its going to get reeeallly cold) insert the butane applicator in the 1/8th" hole and push down.



Step 6:

Let butane evaporate leaving behind the pure golden goo.




Now, from here you have two options. You can let the bowl sit and the butane will slowly and safely evaporate. this could take an hour or more depending on the temperature of where you are keeping the bowl.

Butane evaporates at about 31 degrees F but will freeze anything it touches so a way to speed up the process it to place the bowl in a warm water bath. If you fill a larger bowl with warm water and place the smaller bowl with the BHO in it it will evaporate the butane quicker.

Note: since the butane will be evaporating more quickly you will need a better way to "get rid" of the fumes. I suggest a fan:mrgreen::blsmoke:

When it is all evaporated you should be left with a golden green goo that IS NOT runny whatsoever.
Depending on how clean the utensils were that you use you could end up with a darker product. If you notice in my first picture my bowl was not clean and had old honey oil coated in the bottom. This will result in a darker product as shown in the picture below.

Yup, thanks, doesnt get much more to the point than that. takes about 5 minutes to make the extractor and 5 minutes to send the butane through.

One thing i forgot to mention is you can do larger quantites with a larger pipe.

I cut mine that size thinking it would have been big enough for all that I had but I was actually short, had to do it in two batches which was a pain in the ass.

Learn from my mistake and cut the pipe long

Not sure about that Clipper Butane. Had a funky butane smell after i made it.

yea, it left a wierd smell. You have to watch what type of butane you use.

I found a way to test if your butane is pure or not.

Spray a spurt on a mirror and if after it dries there is a "smelly crusty" residue it is not the type of butane you want to be using.

The "type" of butane you want is "N-BUTANE"

the cheap "toxic" type is "ISOBUTANE"

some brands that are good:
COLIBRI, NEWPORT, CORA, CTC, COLTON, DUNHILL, DAVIDOFF, FACKELMAN, WIN, NIBO, SAROME, CALOR GAS MATCH, UNILIGHT, K2, SUPERGAS, VENTTI, VECTOR


Also, here is a guide for how much butane to use with how much skuff ot bud

very nice, i cant wait to try it. bubble bags are just too damn expensive. minus drill and bits(which i already have) i bet cost is under $12

how long was ur pipe? if it got much longer i'm not sure it would work as well....


also, you don't attach the endcaps at all? the bottom one is just held on by being pressed against the bowl? the top one is only held on by being pressed against the spray can?

mine was about 2' but you need to gauge it to how much skuff you got. Mine actaully ended up short on me this time but U have another 4 foot length so its all good.

End caps are meant to fit tight. I simply pressed mine on and it stays. When you send the butane through it freezes it on anyways.

You could solder the bottom end on for precaution but it just makes cleaning it a pain in the ass

Here is some pics of one of my old extractors.

I ended up ditching it after the first use because when i opened it up after blowing the butane through there was a tunnel "blown" right to the bottom leaving all the stuff on the outer-side virtually untouched. Can anyone say waste of Butane.

Heres the pics.
It was modeled after the HoneyBee Extractor that can be bought.
The design was great but the ABS pipe is just too wide IMO.

Materials used:

2 - PVC hexagonal (1 3/4" diameter)
2 - 2" coupling (it's about 4" long)
1 - PVC piping approximately 4 1/2" (1 3/4" diameter - length is not important)
(home depot has all this shit by the way)

Notes

Use a hexagonal end cap because it is flat! It is much easier to drill holes (for the butane) with a flat surface than it is with a round one!

Assembly

On one of the Hexagonal end caps, drill one hole (just big enough for the tip of your butane cannister to fit inside of it without being loose - you're going to want the butane to work comfortably)

On the other hexagonal end cap, drill as many holes as you'd like! I drilled like six holes, size isn't crucial, but you don't want them too big as to lose product.

Now, you have those 2 couplers? Put one hexagonal end cap into the coupler, do the same for the other coupler/end cap. You now have a pair of end cap/couplers!

Now for your piping, take the hex cap/coupler with 1 hole (butane end) and get it so fucking stuck on that pipe it will never come off (this ensures good working tight sealed piping).

The end that has multiple holes, put it on the other end of the piping gently! I repeat GENTLY! You want to be able to get this on and off as often as you feel like!

Directions
Get a Pyrex Dish
Put coffee filter in hex cap with multiple holes
Grind your herb and put it above filter
*Make sure butane side is up*
Spray butane into the cannister
Allow the solution to hit the pyrex dish
Allow to dry
Enjoy
