I cant find a section where to discuss the secuirty of your grow. Is there any good threads already out there? I mainly want to know how people aviod fly bys when they have a massive grow with lots of lights and heat.

It's all subjective. What constitutes a "massive" grow with lots of light and heat to you?

I have 18 plants under 2000w (5 400 watt lights), and I aint sweating FLIR. I've bumped my power bill by $75 or $100, but I pay the bill on time, and I ain't stealing power, so I aint sweating the power company either.

Now if you have a small warehouse with 20 1K lights, you might be wise to do a "dead air space" insulation. Basically, build another room inside your room, leaving 3 or 4 inches between the existing walls and ceiling. That should take care of the FLIR. If you're REALLY worried about it, run a small A/C unit into that dead space. If anything, the room will show cooler to FLIR.

I didnt give a very good description there. I was thinking more along the lines of a 2 bedroom house attic space. Id couldnt imagine ever being able to afford a warehouse and all the equipment.

Oh yeah, mine could be detected, I have added insulation to all exterior walls with Mylar, but thats more to give me a warm fuzzy than anything. I am getting it more secure each week tho. They can't use FLIR here without a warrant. And I understand FLIR, and know it's limitations.
You'd be in good shape there with the dead air space, the attic is generally the warmest part of the house. I would think that a dead air space would be enough to deter FLIR (IF they are even using it to detect small grows) It's the same principle as dual pane glass.

Im using diamond reflective sheeting, does that change the way things look on FLIR? The reason im worried recently is i smoke alot and a couple of friends and family have told me it smells outside before they get to the door (and they no nothing of my grow).
This worries me because if some silly ignorant person reported the smell and suggested they think they can smell a crop growning here im sure that would be enough for the police to check me out.
Also 2 months ago a very scary thing happened, my friends car got smashed into outside while parked up. When the police came they came in my house to take our statements, the first thing he said is "didnt realize you had been smoking lads"...i shit myself, Thank god that was all that was said, if hed looked further he'd have found a crop in the room above him. Throughout the whole hour of him being here there was a tin full of weed 2ft from his head under a sheet of paper. I always half expected them to come back but im starting to forget the whole thing now.
Any good links on FLIR and how they use it to catch growers would be helpful
