tusseltussel :

Thats really only a 480W system. 4 120 panels. Its a back up system not a full time. And for $9k? But I do like that its an all-in-one kit.

Grid-tied is a lot cheaper. No batteries and no charger. But has its probs/drawbacks too.
i can see clearly now....thanks bbb

get this.... buy a battery charger ... most people already have them...charge em up when its not performing great(until you get more panels)
at least then there is no standard "hes growing pot .. look at this peak 400 watts ...for 18hours a day .. same time every day ... for 2 months then 12 hrs for another 2 ...."

at least it will be 1 day of different current charging and at least 3 days of nothing...how can they try to use that

---------------------------
but any way usually have decent wind here and i have alot of flat land around me... so i will probably go with wind.. but still use a batt charger if i need to

did i somewhat re inspire you whatapothead?
You talking about a battery charger that plugs into the wall???

Dumb idea. You will use 3Kw to get 2.5Kw back out. Its a loss.
And you are going to get caught from here WAY before a 400W shows as unusually high usage.

Companies aren't doing well. They aren't hiring people to go look for blips.
(yes, electrc co's are hurting. Thy can't raise rates willy-nilly. They have to be approved and their costs of fuel are going up)

A window AC or an electric space heater uses a lot of juice. Do you tell your elec co *everything* you own and add to it when you get a new item?

Now stop being silly, just pay the bill on time and grow some killer buds!

I just crunched some number fast. I figured 10 hours a day of sunlight (winter, cloudy days, etc Seemed a fair number) and a kW at $0.13.

A 120W panel at 100% efficiency yields $56.94 with of juice a year. I came up with a 27 years before it pays itself off. (I added the calcs to the link in my sig - eleccost if ya wanna play around)

.13KWH ??? i wish try .21
i dont know why everyone says oh just use .10 a kwh
i look at my bill its .10Kwh and then .08-.11 for delivery .. BAM double overchage surchage rustproofing... whatever

as you add more panels you would save more..
and again i've floated away from the solar panel idea as im learning about wind power now and it would be optimal for my location

here plug 1 or 2 of these into your equation pipe and smoke it !

Yea man a few windmills a roof top of solar and you'd have power when there is no wind or sun just store a bunch etc. its an expensive investment BUT hey can you put a price on going green?

man i feel sorry for some of you guys ,electricity only .06/KWH where I am. If you get your self on the off peak plan and use 70% of your power between hours of 9pm and noon then you only gotta pay .04/KWH. just set all yer timers to come on at those times and its pretty easy to keep a low bill in the winter as far as elec. costs. Summer is harder if its hot and you gotta run the AC all day, still cost is pretty cheap.
