When's the best time to start 12-12? I want to grow a kind of small plant, but I don't want to start budding too soon. What's the best height/age to start 12-12 for a small plant?

i flowerd at 10 inch 12-12

My grow space has a 2x2 base at the most, and about 2 feet tall
