This is my first time growing and i heard that once the plants are about 3 or 4 inches tall u rip the leaves off to make them grow more buds is this true or will i just fuck up my plants?

no, if you take the leaves off, how can the plant get the energy to grow?

unless you want the plant to form some kind of specified shape leave all leaves alone. even taking leaves off to shape them will stress the plant if too many are taken off in a short amount of time. they fall off naturally during the end of flowering and are used to support parts of the plant that need the extra energy.

Are you talking about cloning or growing from seeds? If growing from seeds, NO. When cloning, you take a trim from a mother plant. This trim has no roots yet. So, you want to cut off the top half of all the leaves so that the plant can use energy to root. There are some good examples on you tube. Just search, "cloning."
