GreenX How to's... How to Make a Bubble-Cloner (w/pics)

This is a basic guide of How to Make a Bubble-Cloner, it is generally step-by-step and will hopefully be helpful to anyone wanting to try this.

For more of my guides to come, simply search Titles only, keyword: GreenX How to's

Step 1: Get a suitable container or bucket.

Step 2: Get an air pump, air pipes and air stones, make sure the air stones will fit into you container, they don't have to be as big as the stones pictured below (the pictured stones are 30cm (1ft approx.) long).

Step 3: Fill the container with water (pH 7 approx.) till it's around an inch from the top of the container, place the air stones in the water, connect to the air pump if not already done, and switch the pump on to make sure it works.

Step 4: Get some foil, the stuff you use in the kitchen in fine.

Step 5: Cover the top of the container in the foil.

Step 6: Make holes in the foil to insert the cuttings into, I've only made a few, but you can make as many as will fit if you have enough cuttings to fill the holes.
The cuttings can be prepared the same as here: https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/102940-greenx-how-tos-how-clone.html but instead of putting them into soil, you put them into the Bubble-Cloner.

The idea here is that the stem of the cutting is suspended just above the water (doesn't matter if it touches the water though, the water level will eventually drop a bit anyway), and the bubbles from the air stones splash water droplets onto the stems while still allowing them plenty of air (what every good root system needs, lots of air, and moisture). Those of you familiar with aeroponics will already know all about this.

Step 7: Your cuttings should get bumps around the base of the stem and eventually shoot roots from those bumps, usually in 2-3 weeks, but often shorter time if conditions are optimum, please don't touch those bumps when they form or you'll hinder your new clones development.

Here I've put some Camellia cuttings in the Bubble-Cloner to show you an example simply because I don't have any Cannabis cuts to use at the moment. But it's the same idea.
You shouldn't need to water the clones or mist them while they're in this system but do beware of stems rotting off if you're using soft stemmed cuttings, the harder wood cuttings tend to have a better survival rate in this system.

Step 8: Once you're done with the foil, you can simply rip it from around your newly rooted clones and throw it away.
The clones roots will be in mid air when removed from the system (obviously), so be careful when transplanting them to your preferred medium ... I usually transfer them from this system to either Hydroton (Clay Balls - Hydro/Aeroponics) or into soil, both can be done very successfully with a little tender love and care!

Hope this helps some of you out their. If you're unsure of any of the terms I've used, hopefully my Glossary of Terms will help you out: https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/98008-glossary-terms.html

Cheers!

No problem mate, sorry the examples aren't the best. But it should demonstrate enough the whole idea behind it. And I don't have any shots of the roots because I haven't used this method in awhile and the shots I had were deleted in last years security sweep.

Nice little guide and well done.

I do have a question though. I recently built one and put 8 clones in it. I made the mistake of putting the stems underwater and now after 9 days the stems don't look good and only 1 of them has a little tiny root hair. I went ahead and put the stems above water.

My question is should I go ahead and make a new cut on their stems? Or is it to late and I should just ditch em and start over? I just started flowering my other plants and if I have to take new cuts I would rather do it sooner then later.

Great site you guys got here btw. :eyesmoke:

Depends. If the leaves look okay, keep it. When the tops looks like they're dying, ditch them immediately and splash h2o2 in that area.
