I wanted to try and mess around with breeding a few plants. All I have is female plants. So I have heard you can turn your lights off for 3 days and back on for 24 hrs and it would shock a female into producing a male flower. Does this sound right?
I believe thats how they make a feminzed seed correct? What are the chances of the new seeds being hermaphrodites? Should I even try it? I was thinking about crossing blue berry and white widow. Just for the hell of it. And to see what it does. I dont know, it sound like it might be good. |

AFAIK the feminized seeds are made by stressing an ordinary female to produce some male flowers, and then the pollen from those flowers must pollinate the flowers on that plant. If the pollen gets on another plant, then the hermie trait may be there.
How they stress the plants I don't know. If you put a plant in darkness for 3 days, it might die. I would say that it wouldn't do the plant any good. I've gotten some male flowers on known female plants from having the temps get too high, like into the 90's. Breeding is much more difficult than you imagine. Actually, stabilizing the traits that you want is the tough part. Best book that I've seen on it is marijuana Botany, by R.C. Clarke. HTH
