AFAIK the feminized seeds are made by stressing an ordinary female to produce some male flowers, and then the pollen from those flowers must pollinate the flowers on that plant. If the pollen gets on another plant, then the hermie trait may be there.
How they stress the plants I don't know. If you put a plant in darkness for 3 days, it might die. I would say that it wouldn't do the plant any good.
I've gotten some male flowers on known female plants from having the temps get too high, like into the 90's.
Breeding is much more difficult than you imagine. Actually, stabilizing the traits that you want is the tough part. Best book that I've seen on it is Marijuana Botany, by R.C. Clarke.
