I don't personally know much about corn, but if you found a great phenotype I would take a cutting and try and root it, ESP for Sweetcorn cloning seems like a viable method cause the patches you plant are generally pretty small, so you could do like 20 or 30 clones and have all amazing growth patterns.

So you cut off one of the suckers and planted it? I'm growing sweet corn this year, but mine are in a Darwinian cluster instead of nice neat rows so I don't know if I have any of those suckers or not. I'll look tomorrow, that is an interesting project.

I read that removing the suckers won't increase your yield but it didn't say anything about leaving the suckers improving your yield.

I'd like to know how this turns out if you don't mind.

A lot of plants get those. Roses get them and your are supposed to cut them off, I leave them and I don't see any difference.........

So how is your corn doing? I planted mine late, close to the end of June, but it's starting to get little silks and ears growing. I'm so excited about it. None of my family gardens and it sucks, I want someone to be excited with me. I drag my husband outside everyday when he gets home from work to see the corn ears. He's so wonderful, he comments on it and pretends to care....... LOL
