Hello everyone
i have been growing basil in my garden for the season now and i have noticed and vast amount of seeds growing on some of the plants. i am pretty new to this whole gardening thing and i was wondering if anyone could tell me the best time and way to retrieve these seeds. i would hate them to go to waste.
Any ideas?

Not sure i always pinch my basil flowers off to keep them from going to shit.

Wait for the seed pods to dry out pretty well, then you can harvest them. After harvest go ahead and break them out of the pods, then leave them in something where the air can circulate around them for a while otherwise they may mold.

Catnip is a perennial so it'll not only grow back from existing plants but the seeds that fall out on the ground will sprout too. Be careful with catnip, I have rogue plants growing all over the place. If you are growing if for your cats to eat, you can check it in the winter months. Sometimes a warm spell will make some new green shoots pop out. I usually go grab those off for the kitties. Some fresh nip in the winter really perks up their day.

Basil is an annual and a lot of places it gets cold in the winter time and kills any seeds left outside.

same, although i'm sure if you let the seed pots forum you could just pick them when they seem dried out enough but i'm not sure the effect on the plant itself if you let it happen.
