Default Tomatoes

Dude, they look like cobwebs... Not enough pure sunshine!! Rule of thumb is any shade in the horizon is too much. Give'em some sunshine, water well, and can fert with high N every 7 to 10 days. Are they determinate or indeterminate? What brand you got? Throw some Habenaro pepper seeds in the pot, "Hot Tomatoes". You can clone them also.
Sorry if I insulted you, growing tomatoes is also a passion. See Texas Heirloom Tomatoes.com,.. there is about 1,000 different strains. I got a couple Juliet's a couple days ago. The only Indeterminate s they had. 5' pot plant fell on them last night. Also see Dirt Doctor.com for more info. Get you some Epsom salt to add, it adds minerals needed to stop bottom rot. Keep me posted.

I'm doing the best I can on a balcony. I know the plant isn't the best, but it is growing & this is my first year growing any plant. I do keep them watered well though. I usually give them a gallon 2 or 3 times a week plus they get some natural rainfall. Thanx for the nutrient info. They are a JellyBean Hybrid. It's a indeterminate. I got the seeds at the store - they are Burpee. No offense taken - just tryin' to learn.

Burpee is a trusted seed Co. I've noticed that some areas always pinch off the suckers, and other areas never do. (The new growth at the node.) I did, but quit when a master gardener said that he never does. You can have lot of fun with tomatoes. You can cut a branch off & stick it in the ground, & it will grow. (Cloning). Tomatoes has a set life span , Determinate ones shorter than indeterminate ones. They are self pollinating. They will grow wild, seeds (tomatoes) will fall to the ground, and the seeds will come up the next year. Seeds from store bought tomatoes will germ & grow, also. Bon Scotch habanero peppers & Chinese ornamental peppers is very, very hot. If these are planted next to tomatoes, you will get hot tomatoes. The meat in Roma tomatoes remain firm, good for Salsas & salads. One Guy I visited had an open sewage behind his house in the country. There was 100's of tomato pants everywhere in that area. Meaning, they shit store bought tomatoes & stated growing in the open septic pool. Point, they will do good with plenty of water & lots of fertilize. 1 TS of Epsom salt per plant, per gal of water keeps the bottom rot away. The similarities between pot & tomatoes is near identical. Full sun, etc. Some will get 8' tall. Growing up, every Dinner & supper meal, during the right season, always had cucumber soaked in vintager & sliced up tomatoes on the table. It's a great hobby. Good luck. See Natural Organic Gardening and Living for Plants Pets Trees Lawns Crops Insects Flowers and Home - DirtDoctor.com - Howard Garrett - The Dirt Doctor.

Default Finally...Ripening!

Hi All...Well it took awhile, but the tomato plant is finally starting to ripen! It is over six feet tall & is now growing sideways. I think I'll avoid the vine type until I have more space & sun. Here's some pics for everyone. I can't seem to fit the whole plant in a picture.

Default what does everyone think about tomota plant

While the tomato plant is a perennial it is among the frost sensitive plants. I have had a tomato plant go all black, leaves dead, but when brought inside it put out new leaves. But that was with a +3C near frost. If you want to have a tomato over-winter it should be taken inside when temperatures drop below +6C. Now fruit on the vine will be unpalatable if the fruit itself has been exposed to temperature below about +10C, so if uyou are hoping to harvest winter fruit, take it in before night temperature is below 10C.

Default Some updates on the tomato situation.......

Hi All.......well the outdoor 08' season for matos is over & I just wanted to share some final pictures of the plants fruits. I started a best boy plant outdoors August 3rd & it has come quite far & is producing so I brought it inside. I have some pictures from that as well. I haven't taken the plant outside down & it's still trying to produce so if anything out of the ordinary happens I'll let everyone know.
