my wife bought a seedless watermelon and it had two seeds in it....if i grow them; what are the chances of them being seedless also?? anyone know how that works??

If I remember correctly, it's just an engineered species of watermelon that bears no seeds.

Just plant a seed you buy and the fruit will naturally be seedless.

I'm growing sugar baby watermelons and i think you'll find at least one seed. I think it's like that so that the watermelon could have a chance to survive it's lineage. KEEP SMOKE ALIVE!!

It should grow, because I am fairly certain you can't take a clone from a vine such as a watermelon. If I am wrong, please correct me.

leave a standard seedless watermelon on the vine long enough and it will have seeds. if the seeds you found were black they are mature and can be planted, but since seedless watermelons are hybrids the seeds will not be the same as the watermelon you ate.

I wouldn't plant it if I were you.. as a seedless watermelon it must be genetically modified- genetically modified genes are not stable... if you want to grow watermelon just spend the couple dollars and get some seeds.. heirloom preferably.. there's white rhined, and purple and pink and yellow watermelons as well.. stable genes and things people never see... just my 2 cents..

i was told that seedless watermelons are regular watermelons that are given somekind of hormone or chemical before they fruit that causes them not to have seeds but i have also heard that its a genetic variation that is used.

ye isnt it just genetic's they cross it with another variety of watermelon that has little seeds and grow that batch then cross them with the same varity and so on untill they have a mellon with no seeds, but there is always a 1in4 chance one of the mellons with have some seeds. the seeds should grow i carnt see why not.

thanks for the replies guys... but i have misplaced my two seeds since making this thread... i do however, have some "asahi miyako" watermellons going at the moment; also planted some seeds out of some local watermelon we bought, so no worries in the melon dept.
