I just bought a bag of assorted pepper seeds from my work, and when i placed them in a cup of water, about half of them sunk and the other half floated...what does this mean for each?

I always drown my peper seeds when I soak them, so now I don't do it.

When i was a kid we had a pepper bush, like black peppercorn pepper. The birds seem to like em alot. They would come down and eat em, Then they seemed all fucked up. More then once the dog got one that was to wasted to fly.

lol password..I was looking on the web about it and apparently the pepper seeds that float are either broken, or have some kind of defect... I have them in germination right now.
