Default Tomatos a la hydro?
I am new to hydroponics and just built an 11 plant system I found from "Hydro Ron". I want to grow tomatos and was wondering if I could buy store bought plants, get rid of the dirt and plant them directly into my medium. Would this be too much shock..? Very new to this and want to practice with tomatos to start. Thanks for any suggestions!

I personally think it would be too much shock for them. I would suggest maybe keeping one in soil, and taking cuttings from it.

Allow the cuttings to root in some rock wool/peat pellets, etc. and then place those in your hydro setup.

I have done it under the heat of the florida sun and had excellent results. I found the best way to clean the last the dirt off the roots was to use a hose sprayer with it set to a fine mist, then just hold the plant and press the mister up against the root mass, seems be be a very high flow yet low pressure so the roots don't break. Then i just put em in net pots with some hydroton and left to take off. BTW no need for pricey nutes if ya just wanna grow veggies, I used some generic powder A&B I found at a local hydro farm. They sell it by the pound.

Good Luck
