Day 39

Well there isn't really too much to update. I have finally removed majority of the damaged lower leaves of my plant. The top leaves are still a nice healthy green

I have not found any new female flowers yet. The first one that I found on Day 36 has seemed to stop growing? It doesn't seem to be a very promising flower, so I'm excited to see more female flowers emerge.

I did add an extra cfl light for the backside of my plant.

And the female flower that just doesn't seem to be going anywhere

Looks great, Bella!
I've thought about growing some cucumbers or bell peppers aeroponically before, but I wasn't sure if the weight could be supported. Yours look to be growing strong, though!

Secondly, lol.. there isn't many changes to my plant right now other then it's getting taller.

No cucumbers are yet to be seen

I have been researching some pruning techniques to try and promote female flowers. I did this to one of the vines, so I'll see if they start blooming. (basically trimming off all male flowers that form).

If it doesn't work within a few weeks, I'm planning on changing the lights to 12/12 and see if that helps.

Sorry for not updating.. I just don't necessarily see the need if there haven't been any changes

Check out the 4th post. This is what I tried to do on one vine. Haven't seen a female flower yet though.
Pollination of Cucumbers - Hydroponics Forum - GardenWeb

This one also says to pinch off male flowers for indoor cukes. BBC - Gardening - Basics - Growing cucumbers

I'm wondering if this is more related to all female hybrid types of cucumbers though, because in my mind male pollen will still be necessary to pollinate our female flowers once/if they bloom.

makes sense, but why would they make an all female variety if it could bear no fruit? wouldn't it have to have some way to fruit? especially if they are selling them

no no, all female varieties usually do bear only female flowers, and therefore bare fruit without needing to be pollinated.

Under stressful conditions though, they can form male flowers as well. That's when you pick them off otherwise you'll have bitter cucumbers.

So that's why in those links I'm wondering if they are just referencing all female plants. Because if you did not have a all female plant (like you and myself), you still would need to pollinate the female flowers somehow... so cutting off ALL male flowers that form wouldn't allow for this.

Those are just my thoughts. Who ever knew trying to get a cucumber to grow would be so damn hard. lol
