The best organic fertilizer is compost, because it's free. If you're looking for something store bought, adding a mixture of worm castings, charcoal, lime (not the fruit) and crushed egg shells to your soil will bring you bountiful harvests each season.

^^^^I agree, except that lime is not the right choice in a case like mine - The ground here is full of limestone....I use gypsum instead.

And OP, tomatoes want a high phosphorous fert. The middle number is higher in this case...I'm not familiar with lettuce, honestly

Absolutely. Different strokes for different folks. Much depends on the deficiencies of the soil in which you grow. I use the lime to control the ph balance of my particular soil, but I see how gypsum could be a useful ingredient for healthy plants.

My friends got a rabbit. How long do you need to keep it for (the poo not the rabbit) before you use it? How do you store it?

I assume charcoal = wood ash?

My vote for the best fertilizer has to be green manure. It can provide all the NPK your plants need, it doesn't disturb the microbial life in your soil. and it's incredibly cheap. What can be better than that?

A real gardener is not a man who cultivates flowers; he is a man who cultivates the soil. Organic gardening is based on knowledge and techniques gathered over thousands of years, using sustainable and holistic approaches.

I would say rabbit manure is probably the best. Its always a good idea to add compost and use covercrops.
