    Default Ruffriders 2012 Tomato Plants.

Hey there guys this is my first year with tomato plants so I thought I would get some insight and advice from you guys to help me along the way. So heres the plan.. I picked up a pack of Heirloom tomatoes made by the Burpee company as well as 16 coco fiber pots and a 18 pot coco fiber mini green house to help start the them off.

Now on the package it says to start indoors in a warm well lightened area, Im wondering if the ones I start in the mini green house can just outside since it'll help them start warm and the ones in just coco pots if they would be okay in a window sill?

Then after the plants have matured abit I plant to move them outside and plant them directly into the ground with the pots since they are biodegradable. The soil in the garden is soil thats been built up over the years with composts, manures, top soils etc. The brands of soil added recently added this year are Flo Soil & Fox Farm.

Any comments and advice greatly appreciated!

Sprouts and seedlings need indirect light. A window sill is good. A shady spot in a greenhouse is good, too. At some point the seedlings will become young plants that want more light. You can move these out into the shade during the day. A porch that hardly gets much direct sun is good. You can set them out in the morning and evening to avoid the heat of the during mid-day. You can also position your plants towards more light in a greenhouse. Many people use CFL's or a MH set-up to get the plants to a larger size indoors, but indoor lighting is not required if you make sure to keep the young plants out of extreme elements like: hot, cold, direct sunlight, drought and heat

Hey TexRx thanks for the advice! I know what you mean about starting them indoors with either CFL or MH I would have preferred that. Unfortunately right now indoor growing of any kind is out of the question. Right now I have 5 of them set out on my porch all day I dont think I need to worry about mid day heat as there in pretty decent shade, my porch has like a roof thing over it. I plan to just keep them out during the night in there mini green house they should be okay right?

^^^ It should be fine to leave them out in the greenhouse IF the night temps are not too cold. I don't know where you live but it should be warm enough

I left the green house out on the porch lastnight as night temps were only suppose to dip to 15C. Just waiting for sprouts to come out now, cant wait! Thinking about starting a grow journal would anyone check it out?
